Sometimes all you need is a comfy chair and a great novel, like Harry’s Trees by Jon Cohen. So section off part of your living room or bedroom and design a snug space that’s dedicated to you and your favorite reads.
In this blog I am going to share two ways to create a spot that’s a total page turner, but before I start, there are three essentials to consider. First, you want to choose a comfortable chair, one you could really sink into and relax. Second, bring over an end table to keep a drink or a lamp within arm’s reach. And lastly, add a throw or small quilt to comfort your back as you read or to simply snuggle up with.
Now that you know the basics, check out these two must-try looks for your book nook inspired by different spots that I like to read in my own home.
Sky Meets the Sea
Inspired by my beach house in Washington, this serene set up features calming, beach-y colors that roll together as seamlessly as the sea. The cool blue of the chair and ottoman create a laid back vibe that’s enhanced by the striped towel-like throw and pop of pale pink in the pillow. But it’s the basket-woven side table and unique wooden accents, like the serving tray, that give this coastal couture corner a relaxing look that invites you to lounge around with your new novel (On my list are Anna Quindlen’s new novel Alternate Side and Sophie Kinsella’s new novel Surprise Me) and a nice cup of tea.
Back to Nature
Fresh green hues balanced by natural textures will make this your new sanctuary. The leafy pattern creates a beautiful backdrop for late afternoon musing with your most beloved books while the vibrant shades of green have just enough punch to be used minimally, yet still make a dramatic statement. Rustic details like the button on the pillow, the standing vase and the side pillow add warmth to this spot and delicately weave together the wire basket and lush ferns to create a space you can’t wait to get back to.
This nooks reading list is Jamie Ford’s Love and Other Consolation Prizes and Lisa Wingate’s Before We Were Yours.
Do you have a book nook? We’d love to see where you like to read your favorite Debbie novels! Share your pics to #debbiemacomberbooknook in the comments below and maybe we will post it on our Facebook page!

June 24, 2018 at 4:28 pmA few years ago I took one of our spare bedrooms and turned it into my reading space. I have a beautiful chair and ottoman, my husband made the side table and I put a sheepskin rug between the chair and ottoman. It is tranquil there. It is truly my space. Both of the reading nooks you created I adore. I also love your book recommendations as I await the release of your newest treasure. I do have a question, is there a way to subscribe to your new blog? I do not want to miss any of your posts! Thank you for all you do. I love that we both live in Washington state. It feels like a kinship we share.

9 years ago I watched my husband go threw open heart surgery and the things you wrote about in your book are everything I felt at the time. Little did I know that I would go threw the very same surger only 4 months later, not once but 2 times in 24 hours. I was so blessed in that God was with me, and my husband!! From someone who was ther in that very situation I can tell you that you hit the nail on the head in ” Orchard Valley Grooms”. Thanks for expressing all of the feelings that we experienced in that time in our life.
I love your books and will keep reading all that you write.
May God bless you and yours.
