Wayne’s Whiskey Bacon Brownies

April 27, 2018

Whiskey Bacon Brownies

Brownies:
½ cup unsalted butter
8 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
1 ½ cups sugar
4 eggs
¾ cup flour
¾ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 ½ Tablespoons whiskey

Buttercream:
½ cup unsalted butter, room temperature
¼ cup brown sugar
2 cups powdered sugar
1 ½ Tablespoons whiskey
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/8 teaspoon salt

8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled

In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and chocolate, stirring constantly. Once melted, remove from heat and let cool in pan for 10 minutes.

Preheat oven to 350°F. Line an 8×8 inch glass baking pan with two rectangles of parchment, letting it hang over a few inches on two sides.

Transfer chocolate to a large bowl and stir in sugar. Add eggs one at a time, stirring well to combine between each addition. Add flour and salt and stir just until combined. Stir in vanilla and whiskey. Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.

Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, until a knife inserted in the center has just a few crumbs attached. Set pan on a wire rack to cool.

Meanwhile, make buttercream. In a large bowl, beat butter with a hand mixer on high until light and fluffy. Add brown sugar and beat until fluffy. Add 1/2 of the powdered sugar and mix until incorporated. Add the whiskey and vanilla and mix well. Add remaining powdered sugar and the salt, mix well.

Spread buttercream on cooled brownies, then top with bacon. Cut into squares and serve.

Brownies really look good, wonder if you could use Splenda instead of the sugar. Wonder how they would get? Look all the books I have read so far, looking forward to read more and more of them.

I am definitely going to try this. You can never go wrong with chocolate or bacon. Whiskey is just a nice bonus. I do believe I would be tempted to add just a bit of bacon to the brownie mixture.

      Hi Linda,

I work for Debbie Macomber and if you Goggle dried culinary-grade lavender buds it will bring up where you can purchase lavender. Walmart, Trader Joe’s and other places have it for sale

Now, that is an interesting recipe. My nephew would love it, since he believes anything with bacon is delicious. I actually think the taste of salt and sweet would make them really good. I’ll have to try this one!

My son left for Japan a month ago and is out in the ocean. He is in the Navy and I want to make some brownies, banana bread and rum cake for him. I was told to use alcohol in the batter as it keeps them from going bad real fast. Do you have a alcohol banana bread recipe that I could try. I love your books and your blog. So many great ideas. Thank you
