Happy Memorial Day!
I was overwhelmed with the reception I received in Savannah last night. A knitting group rented a bus and drove four hours from Gainesville to come to the signing. Carol Laird, of Jacksonville, Florida, was there (Carol won an all-expense paid trip for Cedar Cove Days, August 26-30, 2009 through a contest my publisher ran a few months ago). Elizabeth, a military wife, drove five hours from Fort Bragg to attend the signing. Several other ladies told me stories of how my books have helped or encouraged them. I am humbled by the caring shown to me. Thank you one and all for coming!
Wayne and I are heading home to Vero Beach for a few days of respite, to unpack, do laundry, and take a deep breath before I hit the road again.
I wish you all a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend, and if you are able, spend it with people who are important to you. I encourage all of us to take a moment to remember those who have served our country in ways big or small.

Re: Happy Memorial Day!
Hi Debbie, You are right to remind everyone to be thankful for the people who have served, are now serving or will serve in the armed forces. Enjoy your restful weekend and I'm looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday. Have a safe trip. Anne

Re: Happy Memorial Day!
Hi Debbie - I can understand the lengths people will go to get a chance to meet you! You are truly an inspiration: BOTH as a woman and as a writer!!!
I live in NJ and the last time you came thru my way (at the Library in Toms River) I called them for information as soon as I read about your trip, posted on your website. They were already FULL! So I am taking special care to enable myself to meet you on Wednesday!!!
Enjoy your respite with Wayne - you both deserve it!
And as others have posted, thank you again, for reminding everyone to remember our servicemen and women. I wish more people remembered what Memorial Day REALLY stands for... and I'm not talking about the 'unofficial start to summer'.
I happen to live down the street from the Beverly National Cemetery and the military funeral processions go right past my house. As we were out front preparing my flowerbed, my 5 yr. old grandson, Andrew, recently asked "Nana, what's all the slow traffic for?" I took the opportunity to explain that one of our brave military "heroes" has gone to live with Jesus in Heaven. With a BIG SMILE he announced, "So God is giving them a parade!!!" Out of the mouth of babes!!!
Debbie, Happy Memorial Day - have a GREAT weekend - I am really looking forward to meeting you on Wednesday!
Will you and Wayne be driving up here as well? However you are coming - be safe! See you soon! Hugs 'Nana' Geri :)

Thank you for reminding us of those who gave of themselves for our freedom. Jim and I are in Vero now until Tuesday. Maybe we will meet on a walk? God Bless.

Re: Happy Memorial Day!
yes, we will go to the ends of the earth to see you in person. I knew a few years ago when you were at Dunedin, FL that I had to make the 2 hour journey. My husband was really the one who noticed it in the newspaper and said isn't that your debbie? Everyone knows when I talk about debbie is you I am talking about. Have a relaxing holiday, I don't think we are going to get too much rain. We can't complain after the drought like conditions we have been experiencing. take care and God bless you both
let us all pray for our soldiers and the job they are doing to keep our country safe and helping other people who are oppressed.

Debbie, I just discovered your site and just wanted to say, thanks again for all the inspiration you spread, in your books and wherever you go! I live in Gainesville and our Curves ladies have started a "Busy Fingers" group that make chemo hats, burial outfits for Angel Babies, slippers and lap robes for Geriatrics. We love you and your books. Thanks again, Chris

Re: Happy Memorial Day!
Gene wore his Navy retired hat all weekend and was so thrilled when people mentioned something to him.. And being we live in a VA Hospial town we have lots of retired and they stop each other and talk. It good for them at least for Gene it is... Looking forward to seeing you later today.... we might pass each other on the highway.. as you are staying south of me... That would be so funny if we saw each other on the highway. Well one of us would know who we are.. look for a blue Toyota van with this crazy woman waving her arms off ... and her husband just driving along trying to not notice...LOL...

Re: Happy Memorial Day!
Hope you are enjoying our rainy weather - great for napping and just relaxing!! I just finished Summer on Blossom Street a few days ago and I am already wondering what my new friends are doing, how they are handling their knit to quit and everything. Can't wait for the next book!! Guess I need to start reading Cedar Cove, huh? If you are in town, come to Panera on Tues or Thurs to knit if you are up to it, we would love to see you. Take care and have a great rest of your tour and summer. If we don't see you before, looking forward to some knitting time with you this winter. BTW, if you are in town on June 13 we are doing WWKIP at the mall food court, if you are in town, feel free to join us. Vicky in Vero Beach
