The Sound of Silence
The din has died down from five grandchildren scrambling from one end of the house to the other. They were here for spring break, and we had a blast. I spent more time in the pool in the week they were here than I did the entire winter. The silence seems deafening now, and I miss them already. The good news is that Wayne and I will be back in Port Orchard for Easter, and the fun will start all over again—sans the swimming pool.

Re: The Sound of Silence
It is so quiet when the grandkids leave. We usually leave the fingerprints for awhile so we can think about what they were doing. Debbie, what's your word for 2009? jmk

I understand how you feel. My husband and I just spent last week with our children down there. They live in Central Fl. Born and raised there and we got transferred out in 2006, and after spending last with them and the grandbabies it was very hard to leave. I cried most of the way back home.

When the grandchildren are around they are the sunshine that brightens our days.

Re: The Sound of Silence
We just pruchased a home in Mesa, AZ and we are not sure how being away from our children/grandchildren for 3-4 months is going to work for us. I guess time will tell. Their ages range from 3 to 20 (3 girls, 3 boys). I'll let you next year at this time.

Re: The Sound of Silence
I understand how you feel. We were a foster home and three was our grandchildren ages now 4,3,2 but had them all as babies. We were allowed to adopt the 2 year-old as he is a 1/2 brother to the other 2, which are now in OR with their other grandma. They have been gone since October and we quit doing foster care so we could focus on the adoption as well as our 10 year-old son. Plus we had our, now 19 year-old go off to college. I am still not use to the more calmer home that we have now. The adoption is complete so now I have 2 sons that run in opposite directions because they are close to 9 years apart. Fun and challenging at times!

Re: The Sound of Silence
we had the spring break kids last week too, 2 from Orlando and 2 from West Palm Beach, their parent that were our kids came too. It was nice to see our kids and talk to them without their spouses for a change and get to talk to them, we just had the two parent children back as our favorite aunt passed away with cancer. But they were so grown up at 47 and 40 and it was a pleasure that they helped us through the hard time.
