More Classes for Bogie and Me

Bogie and I are back in obedience classes.  The dog is a marvel.  His teacher sat on the floor and talked to him, eyeball-to-eyeball, and Bogie did everything she asked.  I sit down with him, eyeball-to-eyeball, and he ignores my every command, licks my face, then runs off with my shoe.

I love, love, this dog, but it's time for me to learn how to be a loving dog owner and one Bogie cannot ignore.   I'm afraid we have our work cut out for us!

Re: More Classes for Bogie and Me
Hi Debbie,
I can just seethis cute little dog looking at you eyeball to eyeball. Doesn't it just make you melt? You might want to look up Cesar Millan (Dog Whisperer). He stresses that we need to be pack leaders demonstrating leadership from day one. I know it's hard with puppies; but apparently that is when to start. Good luck with Bogie. I'm sure he will be a fine dog when he grows up. Anne

Re: More Classes for Bogie and Me
My new dog is the same. I'm having a VERY hard time getting her to walk on a leash without pulling me down the street. After a couple of blocks she's exhausted and walks very nicely but until then...it's like I have rockets on my feet! LOL

Re: More Classes for Bogie and Me
We had a dog or should I say my son and his wife who didn't listen especially when walking him. The answer is put a harness instead of a collar to walk him and you will notice the difference immediately. He was a mutt found in Cleveland Ohio on the streets.

Re: More Classes for Bogie and Me
you are too funny, but i am sure this is very serious to you, Bogie is not that old, most dogs do not calm down until they are 3 years old, so don't stress out over it

Re: More Classes for Bogie and Me
I remember when my 6 year old granddog was a puppy... My granddaughter had him on a leash and she was sitting in his puppy bed and pulling her around the room... It was cute. but she could not take him outside till last year she is on the small side and was 14 yrs old... the first year was terrible.. my daughter had such a time with her Annie.... Now she barks when some one is around the house but she does not go crazy and try to get away from you any more... takes time... obid.. class is a good start...

Sorry to hear about Marie. My thoughts are with Wayne, yourself and family. She was on her way to see her husband again. Teresa

Re: More Classes for Bogie and Me
Speaking of love, love, loving your Bogie...I just finished an amazing book I know you and Wayne would love. It's called "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein, a fellow Washingtonian. Enzo, his dog tells the story. Like your books, I didn't want to put it down. It gave me a new appreciation for our furry friends. Thanks again for joining my friends and I for lunch last summer at your fabulous restaurant and office. Barb

Thoughts & prayers for Wayne, you & your family.Losses are never easy but they somehow make us stronger. Always remember the laughs & encouragement of your mother-in-law.
