Of groundhogs and shadows
I understand the groundhog saw his shadow this morning, predicting six more weeks of winter. Personally, I don’t require a groundhog to tell me this has been a bitterly cold winter and that it is likely to continue. I have my grown children, all four in Washington state, reporting to me on a weekly basis how miserable this winter has turned out to be. Their solution—visit Mom and Dad in Florida over spring break! Air fares are down, or so they claim, and since we have a nice new house, we should easily be able to entertain fifteen guests. From just the two of us on up to fifteen, Wayne briefly considered taking a trip, but I’m more than ready for a grandkid fix.

I hope you have fun with them. I'm just stuck up in chilly WI. Around lunchtime, it wasn't too bad outside, but a cold front is on the way, bringing colder temperatures and lake-effect snow to Wisconsin.

Re: Of groundhogs and shadows
You should do what my husband and I do when our kids come down from Michigan. The closest motel is either the Days Inn my Chili's on US 1 or the one that is on us. 1 and 17th street next walgreens. We get a room for a couple of nights for quietness and the "herd" have the house. House rule, coffee is to be made before we get back in the morning!! Did you know Debbie, that is when you went down all the way from 17th street bridge to the west and hit 58th to go to Sam's Club, you would have went past my place. So close.....but yet so far!

Can't wait for SPRING.

Re: Of groundhogs and shadows
don't you just love having the crew, we love it and our hubby's have mixed emotions about it don't they, you would think they had nothing to do with having the kids. Lucky you to have them for spring break. we usually have one family or the other haven't heard yet if they are coming, I love it. the grandkids are growing up so fast as it is, need to spend time with them before they are in college.

Re: Of groundhogs and shadows
All of you suffering in the North have my deepest sympathy. It has seemed unusually warm here in Arizona. I made lots of winter hats and no one has been having to wear them. We have only had sweater weather most of the time and lately into the 70's during the day. I am not bragging about the weather but I sure could take a week or so just to remind me of what real winter is. Anyone want to fly me to Wisconsin or Seattle for a week? I guess I shouldn't ask cause all I would do is hole up in the hotel for a week and not see much. If my house was more in order I'd say someone could come visit me. Debbie, why don't you have a contest during the winter and have two tickets to come to Arizona and they could stay with me!

Re: Of groundhogs and shadows
We are going to go see grandbabies spring break unless there are more days in a week cut back at my husbands work. Sure hope not as we were looking forward to seeing the little munchkins. They are in OR and we are here in ID just about 540 miles apart but still too far apart. About 40 degrees and sunny today but cold in the evenings.

Your Wayne sounds like my husband. I would be the one enjoying the visitors. But I think my husband would look forward to seeing everyone but needs something to grouse about.

Now that you are in the South, you don't have to worry about Phil! We have General Beauregard Lee and he DID NOT see his shadow. I hope he's right! My tulips and daffodills are coming up and my roses are putting out new growth!

Re: Of groundhogs and shadows
I myself don't believe in the groundhog. Its is like 5 degrees here in upstate New York today. My poor German Shepard Tyson had a hard time walking in the cold snow this morning. I had to bring him in and warm up his paws, burrr.... Imagine that I grew up in Miami, Fla, what brought me to the cold?????
