Separation Anxiety

Wayne and I left Bogie for the first time since we arrived in Florida.  I was scheduled to attend Book Mania in Stuart , Florida, over the weekend (I had a fabulous time!), and our housekeeper’s daughter agreed to take him for the weekend.  We immediately underwent separation anxiety.

During the cocktail gathering the evening before the book festival we had the good fortune to meet Dr. Nick Trout, a veterinarian who has a wonderful book titled TELL ME WHERE IT HURTS.  Wayne immediately confessed, as if he were charged with murder, that we had left behind our four-month old puppy.  Then I added, “And we left him with STRANGERS.”  Dr. Trout instructed us both to have another glass of wine and call him in the morning.

Re: Separation Anxiety
I can imagine how you feel. When I left our two dogs with someone once one of them ran away and never came back. I was kicking myself all over and then I found out that that breed of dog was known for running away

Re: Separation Anxiety
When I moved out of my parents house I had to leave "Tuffy" my dog there with them. But he followed me to my new home and then was spotted walking back to my parents when I had to work. Then one day my dad called me and said "Tuffy" left and never came home.

Re: Separation Anxiety
We always call our family members when they are caring for our dogs. It's nice to know everyone is fine.

P.S. On your web-site Midnight is not spelt correctly. It's missing the "h" in your title.

Re: Separation Anxiety
Our dog Oreo suffered with separation anxiety whenever my husband and I would be away for the weekend. The first time my neighbor called to tell us Oreo had unzipped a cushion cover from the sofa and tore out the stuffing. The next time it was an arm chair. The third time it was the sofa upstairs, which we had to replace. After she teethed and got through the puppy stage, she has been a great dog. All 88 pounds of her!! Oreo has never eaten any more of our furniture!

Re: Separation Anxiety
I bought Dr. Trout's book because of the Boston Terrier on the cover. I have a friend that has 2. I read it before I gave it to her and loved it!!!

We put our puppy, Duck, in a mesh crate the first time we left him home. Not a good idea. Between Duck's sharp puppy teeth and our older dog's help, Duck was liberated in no time. Not a lot of damage done...and we got a sturdier crate the next afternoon. Duck is now my 80 pound lap dog!

Re: Separation Anxiety
I would have loved be able to attend a BooK Mania. Hopefully you will inform us of any in the CT/NY/MA area. I am sure your puppy was happy to have you back home. Because of allergies we have no pets so pet separation anxiety is not something to which I can relate from experience but I am sure it is very real.

Re: Separation Anxiety
Our Charlie had TPLO surgery (he ruptured his major cruciate ligament, requiring a HUGE plate put in his knee joint), and that as over 8 weeks ago. We've had to deal w/his being confined only to the kitchen, and going out on leash to potty. What a nightmare, but add in that we live in CO (snow!), and he's a 140 pound Newfoundland. It is NOT fun having a giant dog be lame! Ouch. We are hopeful this surgery has fixed the problem, and our big drooly baby will be back to his cheerful self soon. Our furry babies are so much fun!

A note to all in Fl. WE in upstate NY (Oneida near Syracuse). -20 on the days you all were at 26. Needless to say we will be leaving soon for Ormond Beach so save us some of that Florida sun shine.

Re: Separation Anxiety

Asked my Mom (86 and going bind to be care full when she goes outside for mail because of fog)She say the only fog i see is in my eye....We have no fog today Its great out...My husband planted flowers yesterday and started a new flower bed in another spot.. So leave the snow behind and come on down.

Re: Separation Anxiety
Hi Debbie; Wow, I was surprised to read that you've moved to Florida. I know you'll love it, but I'm sure you'll find excuses to get back up to Washington as often as possible. I love reading all of your books, and always look forward to your Christmas books, especially the "angel" books.
p.s. will you be making any trips to Oklahoma in the near future?
Sincerely,
Ellen Marshall, Oklahoma
