Bogie in Florida
Wayne and I are in sunny, 80-degree Florida--don't hate me!  Bogie, our puppy, however, doesn't appear to like it here nearly as much as Wayne and me.  He's attempting to dig his way back to Washington State.  Our back yard resembles a World War I battlefield, complete with trenches.  We didn't have a clue he had this penchant for digging, but then the ground was mostly frozen in Port Orchard so he didn't have much of an opportunity to show his true colors.  The dog trainer advised us to sread cayanne pepper in his holes with the promise it wouldn't hurt him.  It works.  He starts digging, sneezes a couple of times and abandons the hole . . . . only to start digging in a new location!  Ah, the joys of puppyhood.

Re: Bogie in Florida
how well I remember those days, you should have heard me as the hysterical mother calling the vet because not only did we dig we ate the plants around the tree. The vet was laughing so hard he could hardly tell me what to do. You have to understand that we had been with this vet through 2 other long time dogs and several cats, he knew us well.
How I long for those days again, but the heartbreak of losing our precious Samoyed passing of cancer two years ago.
We do have a God daughter, Jack Russell little girl name Candy, she is sweet, full of mischief like they are but a sweetheart. We babysit her and her parents go to Norway every summer for a month and the cats here say oh no, not her again. They have her trained though after the first week. Our largest cat is as big as she is. Don't you just love our weather here in Florida, but a little cooler wouldn't hurt either. give your Bogey lots of hugs and kisses.

Re: Bogie in Florida
just a thought you could buy the peper in bulk and put it in the weed spreader and do the whole yard... might only have to do it once...or fence of an area and keep him there for a while... and the pepering will be a smaller area.

I know just how you feel...we had a yellow lab named "Duke" and he was champion hole digger in our neighborhood (we nick-named him "digger-dog")Hope he's not doing it in your NEW back yard!! We floridians LOVE 80-degree weather!!! (That's why we're here!) He'll get used to it!! LOL Kathi :)

Re: Bogie in Florida
What a hoot! You'll have to take him to a beach where digging is encouraged : )

Re: Bogie in Florida
I like the idea of putting cayenne pepper in the fertilizer spreader and do the whole yard. Good idea. And dogs are not permitted on the beaches. At least not here in Vero Beach/treasure coast where Debbie is. I hope you are enjoying the warm weather compared to what is happening in your home state. Hope I run into at some point while you are down here Debbie.

Re: Bogie in Florida
almost every town in Florida has at least one beach for the dogs, check it out with the local authorities. we used to take our samoyed to the beach, she was a big chicken but it did her good, our vet said to take her there

Re: Bogie in Florida
We have a new golden lab that we got from a rescue group. She's 2 years old and try's to "bury" things around in the house. Since Spokane has recieved over 80 inches of snow in the last 2 1/2 weeks, she obviously can't dig outside yet. I'm glad to hear about the pepper though, it may come in handy in the spring...if the snow ever melts!

Re: Bogie in Florida
Our first golden Dixie liked chewing on the wood window frame of our lower level when she was outside. "They" recommended" used hot pepper sauce "guanteed" to make her stop. Well she loved the pepper sauce so we waited until she didn't like the wood frame and had that side of the house redone. We now have about 26 inches of snow on the ground. I'd trade 80 degrees for 26 inches of snow. Kathy, Sartell, MN

What a naughty puppy! LOL! I would love to be in Florida right now. It's cold here in Wisconsin. Apparently the Pacific Northwest is taking a beating with the storms. You are in Florida at a good time.

I'm grinning here, thinking about how the dog must feel with all that sneezing going on. Must be so confused. lol. I'm fixing to be a new puppy parent, so I get to experience all the trials that comes with being a puppy parent. Wish me luck! And I hope Bogie soon learns his lesson. lol

Re: Bogie in Florida
It's wonderful and hard at the same time having a young dog. After having my beloved Gus for 15 3/4 years, I was used to a dog that loved to snuggle and lay by me while I knitting. I have just recently rescued a 2 year old poodle/schnauzer mix, Einstein, that is full of energy and loves to bury anything and everything, inside and out!! Yep, he digs and then burys!! But in Utah, with 12 plus inches of snow on the ground, what gets buried, stays buried until spring! Einstein will have a lot of fun finding his treasures come spring.

Bogie, well, it's just in his nature. Just think, every year you'll get new lawn, and Bogie will have a new yard to dig in!! It's a pain now, but when he's old and gone, you'll remember those days with fondness.

Give Bogie hugs and kisses, and don't be too hard on him!!
