2009 Knitting
Wayne and I are packing for Florida. Naturally, the first thing I sorted through to bring with me was yarn--no surprise there. Every year I knit each one of the grandkids a project. They choose the pattern and the yarn, and we have a good time of it. This next year, however, I’m knitting them small things instead of an afghan or a sweater. They’re getting hats and scarves. The major knitting is going to be for me. I feel almost guilty saying that, but I have so many projects stored up I’ve been wanting to attempt. Unfortunately, there are only so many knitting hours in a year. So, my friends, when next you see me, check out that sweater I’m wearing . . .

Re: 2009 Knitting
So you are going to knit for yourself? Good for you Debbie! I knit for so many others that my own desires are usually put on the back burner. I have a sweater jacket for myself that has been "in progress" now for almost 3 years.
Enjoy your time in Florida! May it be a time of renewal for you.
And a side not to Fran who first posted - knitting is really quite easy once you get the hang of it. It is kind of like following a recipe but the results last much, much longer. :-)

Re: 2009 Knitting
I love knitting and it has been on the back burner for so long, actually because someone keeps writing books, wonder what her name is? No, seriously I am going to make that one of my goals this year to get back to knitting, it is so soothing to my soul. I just finised A Cedar Cover Christmas, tissues in hand, I had bought it and loaned it out to my friend and then my daughter and I said hey I would like to read my book. Loved it, I love the 3 angels but this was a nice change.
We took pictures of the frost on the roof and yard here today, yes, folks I live not too far from where Debbie winters and we do have an occasional frost. Actually, the cooler weather is a nice change sometimes.
Welcome back Debbie and Wayne to the sunshine state.

Re: 2009 Knitting
I am also spending quite a bit of time knitting. I have quite a stash built up during my working years and now that I am retired it is time to spend time enjoying my knitting. I am taking classes to learn more than scarves and afghans but I am planning to use most of my yarns making afghans for the wee ones in the Children's Hospital.
Enjoy your time in FL and am looking forward to seeing pix of your projects

Enjoy getting your yarn ready for Florida. It is cool down here in Vero Beach. Hope you go to the bookstore down here again for a signing! I am the one who started out making pot holders. For Fran, the first one who posted. I found this site helpful in learning to knit. It is a demo on Continental knitting. They say it is the best for people who have arthritis. It is www.youtube.com. Put this in the "search" space. Continental knitting demo craft sanity. It will be the first one they put on. It originates out of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Craftsanity.com is a good site also. But this demo site has helped me alot.

Re: 2009 Knitting
I am too packing for Florida soon to spend the holidays with my grandparents in Inverness. I was trying to decide which yarn to take (although I just recently started knitting and am still working on it, but I do know different stitches and such!) It is funny how everyone is saying they don't knit for themselves because even though I am a newbie, I find myself knitting for everyone else. Its such fun though and I wouldn't have started knitting in the first place if it wasnt for your Blossom Street books Debbie, so thank you for opening a new door in my life. Happy Holidays everyone!

Re: 2009 Knitting
Debbie, Thank you for the card! I do have lymphoma. Right now it's contained in nodules in both lymph nodes in my neck.
I'm learning to knit!!! I think I can knit 2 rows of 25 now, without ripping out!! LOL!! I want to learn to make those kitchen wash cloths. Those are SO wonderful! So, I'm trying!!! I doubt if anyone gets any this yer, but it will be something to due all next year. At least I've not knitted a softball this attempt to learn!!
When I buy books, they get passed around my family, then a bunch of friends, and end up in a nursing home. You have many fans, of all ages, around here! :).
Have a safe trip to Florida!!

Re: 2009 Knitting
Ahh,knitting. I'm absolutely addicted. So far this year I've made 129 blankets for the nursery at our local hospital, 19 sets of hats and wristwarmers for the homeless and 2 teddybears, (crocheted) for my grandbabies. Other various and sundry gifts thrown in throughout the year too. All on top of working full time. Everyone at church expects to see me, knitting bag in hand, during studies, church...everywhere I go. My concentration is much better when my hands are busy. I've even discovered a way to prop up your books so I can continue to knit,(or crochet) while reading. My husband has finally admitted my stash needs to be contained better and has hired a carpenter to install shelving into an entire double closet. Just for my stash! Isn't it wonderful? I love my husband. Betsy in Spokane

Re: 2009 Knitting
You know, I knit all year, but pretty much everyone gets little things like hats and mittens for Christmas. I designate one or two people who will get sweaters (and they do), but pretty much any other "big" knitting goes to me. Have fun in FL!! Bethany

Re: 2009 Knitting
Hello Debbie! Just finished one of your books and logged in to see how many Angel books you have--wow!! Anyway, I started knitting 2 years ago when I attempted to quit smoking. I have finally accomplished that task last month and have picked up knitting again. I am only into simple things but would like to become a little more accomplished. Do you have any suggestions on where I can go to learn more about knitting? Tammy-St. Louis P.S. Loved "Where Angels Go!!"

Re: 2009 Knitting
Debbie, My niece gave me a copy of "A Shop On Blossom Street" when I had very serious back surgery last spring. I have been addicted to your books ever since and am on a mission to find every one you have ever written. I have knitted since I was 7 years old but am not an expert on finishing. I don't know of a class that teaches just that. Any suggestions? Thank you for the joy and love you bring to all of your readers lives. Janet
