Veterans Day
When I was a  kid, growing up in Yakima, Washington, Veterans Day was a big deal.  My dad marched in the parade with fellow veterans and proudly carried the American flag.  Both my parents were part of the war effort during World War II.  Mom served as a welder,  building ships in the Portland shipyards while Dad was overseas.  Dad was captured by the Germans in the Battle of the Bulge and spent the remainder of the war in a POW camp inside Germany.  My parents knew what it meant to serve their country as countless men and women continue to do to this day.  In memory of my parents, and for all those past and present who have sacrificed for our freedom, I want to say thank you.  God bless America.

Re: Veterans Day
I am so Thankful for all that have / is serving our Armed Forces. We have several in my family that has been in the military. My Dad, my grandfather, my uncle, My husband, my cousin and my brother. I have a 14 year old son that wants to go to the military when he gets out of school. I proudly wear my American Flag pin in honor of all the military and families that have to wait at home for them to return. God Bless of you and God Bless America. :)

Re: Veterans Day
Thank your parents from me. Both my dads (I was adopted) and most of my uncles served in the military. My dads were both Marines. My dad (the one that raised me) was drill instructor at Paris Island during the Vietnam War. I am so proud of our Armed Forces and pray continually for them.

Re: Veterans Day
My husband's aunt and uncle both served in the army, that is where they met and married, uncle bob lost some toes due to the war. My husband's worked for Pan American airways and served with the troops in Africa in wwII, he was awarded medals and given a honorary status in the military. My husband bob and my younger son both served, my husband was in the airforce during Vietnam and my son in the army during Desert Storm. it was ironic that that our son was sent to Manhattan, Kansas where his great aunt and uncle met. We fly our flag 24/7 (we light it up at night) and will do that until the boys come home. We also tied yellow ribbons around trees in the past.
We usually go to the parade here in our small town, but because of my broken foot (i have to stay off of it) my husband didn't want to go without me. He is a Shriner and usually drives a small go cart, then comes back to me and puts his american legion hat on. We need to show support whether we believe in the war or not, they are being sent over there to protect our freedom. I wear my american flag pin proudly too.

Re: Veterans Day
My late husband was a disabled veteran of the Vietnam war. His injuries caused his much later health problems that eventually caused his death. My father, father-in-law, and uncles were also veterans. But our family stays in constant prayer for my nephew, returned from the Middle East last year, and my younger son, who is in Saudia Arabia now. Please continue to stay in prayer for all of our young men and women still fighting for our safety. Barbara in Philly

Re: Veterans Day
My husband is a veteran of the Korean war and was a medic in recovery and transport. He came back o.k.but with very bad memories of being there and suffered a long time with nightmares that were bone chilling. Bless every person male or female who has and still is serving to keep our freedom. We too fly the stars and stripes proudly.I wish everyone appreciated and honored these men and women, but they don't.
