Moving is Not for Sissies!

Our plan was simple.  Wayne and I  were to fly to Florida,  sign closing papers on our new house, pack up the condo, tag items for the movers, and meet them at our new place. Sounds simple, right? Haul a carload or two of clothes and maybe a few boxes of books, some knitting paraphernalia and a bottle or two of wine.

Are you laughing yet?  It took three days to pack up the condo and an entire day for the moving company to make the transition.  And almost none of it was furniture!  Where in the name of heaven did all that  "stuff"  come from?  (I used the word stuff—I won’t tell you what Wayne called it.)  By the time we reached the Orlando airport on Sunday afternoon to fly back to Washington state,  we were both limping and full of aches and pains.

Even the simplest of moves isn’t for sissies.

after our pastor gave a sermon about ridding yourself of stuff, we call all those things stuff. we are working on ridding ourselves of things that we have not used in the two years since we moved to Hernando, FL. it is time for the stuff to go. I can still remember moving 2 yrs. ago andit definitely is not for the faint hearted. congratulations on your new home.

Happy for you to be in a new house, but glad it was you and not me. After living in the same house for 50 yrs. can you just imagine my stuff( or as my husband probably calls it the same as Wayne). It would take me months and I would end up in a hospital or worse. Take care and enjoy your new surroundings!

Re: Moving is Not for Sissies!
we moved three of us from two condo's into one 4 bedroom home. we only moved from south florida to north florida. Took my husband who is retired military and used to packing three weeks to do our condo and my mothers. And then when we go here lots of things stayed in the garage for our first yard sale.. LOL. I do love those sales... We had movers as well.. I killed almost all my mothers plants.. figured it was Feb I could leave them in the car a couple of days that we stayed with family till everything was in working order... NOT......We have been here almost three years where does time go.
Congrats on the home. more room, more company, more yarn and stuff.... Grandchildren fixes can come here....

Re: Moving is Not for Sissies!
I know the feeling. When I moved back to Oregon in 1998, it was after 10 years of marriage. It was just my daughter and myself (I had seperated from my husband) in a Ford Contour and a medium sized Uhaul trailer. I drove from Michigan to Oregon. All of this happened in the middle of July. Not fun at all and I had to leave alot of stuff behind. My ex-husband and I were in the military before and moved every 2 years so things didn't stay around for long. Now after being in one house for 9 years my new husband, me and my daughter moved in one weekend to our new house, so we could be in it before her graduation in 2007. If that wasn't fun. I'm still unpacking our storage shed and we have been in our new house for a year and a half.

Re: Moving is Not for Sissies!
When I moved to Texas, it wasn't so bad. 23 boxes and one sofa. Hey - I was moving out on my own, being a grownup and all that good stuff.

Well... 3 years later, I moved back home. My biggest mistake was NOT selling my furniture - dresser set, queen-size bed, bookcases, etc. After things went on the moving van, I had to return to pack up 11 more boxes and ship them home.

All of that is now in storage.

Mom has lived in our house for 40-something years and we've been trying for 5 years to get a new house. She's been packing and throwing out and it seems as if there is no dent and no end in sight!

Boy do I know that feeling of moving too! We moved two months ago to a different apartment, just one hall away in the same complex! Well, it took us one week to move everything, and I can't tell you how sore we both were, and some of the "choice names" we used too!!
I hope you and Wayne are all settled in your new home and now recovering by doing something fun!!

I am happy you are getting settled in your new home in the sunny south and can appreciate the hassle of moving. Indeed, where does all of the "stuff" come from? Enjoy the great weather in good health

I hate moving! LOL! It's a lot of work! Fortunately, we've lived in this house for the past 12 years, so, I haven't had to move, in a while! We still have too much stuff, though!
