Living History

My dear, sweet husband loves war; more specifically, the study of it.  Because of his passion for the Civil War, we’re flying out tomorrow morning for Gettysburg for the second summer in a row.  It helps that our friends, Gary and Marsha Roche, are meeting us there.  Gary is a trained battlefield guide and has the knack of making history come alive.  Last summer I tagged along, sitting in the back seat, content to knit away.  Before long I set my knitting aside and leaned forward so as not to miss a word.  I’ll send updates from the road.

Re: Living History
Wayne and my husband Bob would get along great! Bob,too, likes anything and everything about the Civil War, World WarII, and many other wars and conflicts. It makes me wonder if he was there in another life...

Re: Living History
We are so very lucky to live in an area rich in Civil War history. Here is a link for Wayne to look at, as I think he would enjoy it. We have spent many an hour exploring the battlefields.

Re: Living History
my son-in-law is a history buff, especially about the Civil War. When I was in college I took American History and I had a huge report on the Civil War, what an eye opener some of the research books were.

Re: Living History
While researching my Family History and also that of collateral families I have learned many new things about the Civil War. My great grandfather and three of his brothers served in the Confederacy during the Civil War. Francis Marion Ferrell was a surgeon, He was my great uncle and one of his other brothers Zophar C. Ferrell assisted him in surgery as did another of hisbrothers. My great grandfather was Edwin Ebeneezer Ferrell. My great grandfather met my great grandmother on his way home from war, her husband having perished earlier in the war. I shudder to think of all the amputations they must have performed during that terrible war that was waged between the northern states and southern states. If I could be anywhere it would be to be there with you and learn more.

Re: Living History
My husband is the history buff here as well. I send the kids to him when they need some help on history homework. UGH! I do like to learn about the history of Idaho and found out my 5th grader this year as well is very interested in it and loves science. Yeppy! School starts the 20th. Really that means more work for a mom in many ways than having them home. But I love it! Have a great trip!

Re: Living History
My sister in law and her husband are also history buffs - Civil War especially. Jen has a master's degree in history and wants to work at one of the battlefields. Their honeymoon was a tour of about 8 different battlefields.

Re: Living History
That sounds absolutely fabulous! I've always had a love for the Civil War, having read any and all books on it I could. I've never been to Gettysburg, but it's definitely on my life's to- do list. :) Hope you guys have a great time!
