Summer in the Plains

Last night in Kansas City I went to bed while watching TV with warnings of storms and possible tornadoes.  I awoke to the sound of sirens blasting around town, so I jumped out of bed, ran around the bed twice, and grabbed my bathrobe.  My thought was that if I had to evacuate my room, I’d at least have my bathrobe on and be ready.  After all that I was worn out, and having received no instructions from the hotel, I decided to go back to bed and prayed.

When morning arrived there was storm damage around the area.  Apparently there were tornados last night.  A fellow traveler described hail the size of quarters and fierce wind and two inches of rain   He said the rain felt like needles, it was coming down so hard.  I’m beginning to feel like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz!

We apologize for the weather here in KC. I hope it doesn't scare you off for return visits in the future.

Re: Summer in the Plains
I am so very relieved that you are okay. Well my dear, this is my ULTIMATE DEBBIE week. On Monday, while reading 16 Lighthouse Rd. the mailman brought me the very first Newsletter with all the goodies inside, and I was soo honored. Yesterday, I finished Lighthouse, and couldn't help but start 204 Rosewood Ln. Last night I went to bed trying very hard to put the book down on page 226. This morning I called Borders to please put aside for me the next 3 books, knowing I'd finish Rosewood today. Walking into Borders, where you'll be signing in June, a whole table of 20 Wishes greeted me right after walking into the store. Of course I picked one up for later, as I still want to finish the first 7 Cedar Cove books. So here are greetings from "Port Orchard" from a devoted and no longer rookie reader and fan of yours. When I got home from the bookstore, I found your latest blog entry, and just had to send you my personal little notes and thanks. Oh I was also told at Borders, that it would be wise to come in early in the morning of your booksigning here in Dallas, to get a wristband, in order to have a number in the line. Now just one more thing, (sorry this gets long) I love to knit, always have, but being European, I still go by instructions in German. Now the biggest challenge for me will be, to be able to understand the instructions for the lovely shawl you included in your newsletter. Because, although being fluent in English 15 years after my immigration, the knitting language is still as foreign to me as a japanese crossword puzzle. Best of luck on the future of your tour, and no more storms to frighten you. Back to Grace now, page 271.
Yours Esther in Dallas

Re: Summer in the Plains
wow, I know how you feel after having hurricanes down here and then moving up to central fl and they have tornadoes. All you can do in that case is pray. The weather has gone crazy, we have played with mother nature too much i think. hope you enjoy the rest of your trip.

Re: Summer in the Plains
Thanks so much for the newsletters with all the goodies. Now a new bookmarker that I am sure I will have wore out before the next Cedar book comes out. I am supposed to get Twenty Wishes for Mother's Day so we wait and see. If we ever meet I want you to sign my book of yours Knit Together. It has even helped with devotional time. Setting goals and thinking more positive. If we do not have Christ what do we have? NOTHING! Thank you, Gee in Idaho!

Re: Summer in the Plains
Dear Debbie,
This is my first time writing to you. I'm so excited! I just finished reading Knit Together. WOW!! What an inspiration you have been to me. I have written down about 10 pages of notes. I plan on re-reading them every day to keep me on track. I too have wanted to write for a long time. I took a how-to write children's books course at a local college about 10 years ago. My fear of rejection has kept me from doing anything about my dream. But no longer! Thanks to you!! Thank you so much for your insight, your knowledge, and especially for your faith. You are truely a blessing!!!!!

My God Bless You,
Paula

Re: Summer in the Plains
Hi, Debbie - I had a similar experience with tornados in Indianapolis. While driving down one of the city streets, the sirens starting going off like mad, and I had no idea why (being from Connecticut). Since everybody else was pulling over, I did too, and within minutes the rain was up to the hubcaps. Found out later it was a tornado warning. Looking forward to meeting you at Foxwoods!

Re: Summer in the Plains
Hi Debbie,

I was hoping so much to visit with you when you travel to Hunt Valley, MD. Unfortunately, I will not be able to see you then. Any chance you will be in the Philadelphia, PA area sometime? I just finished Back on Blossom Street - enjoying spending time with the girls there. I couldn't stop reading - love your books so much. I think my one girlfriend could use a prayer shawl. Thanks so much for the patterns. Take care and have a safe trip. Anne

Re: Summer in the Plains
I have just finished Twenty Wishes and loved every minute of it, hated to see it end. I love the Blossom Street Books. Now I am reading one from a while ago, "Someday Soon", I can hardly get anything done, don't want to put the book down. I am having my daughter and her family over for the weekend from Orlando and I want to finish it so she can take it home and read it. Then I have to get it back for my friend who wants to read it. I think I may have to tell them to get their own copies. Hope you are having a great trip, take care, praying daily for your safe trip,
