I had to poke fun at myself

I spent an incredible four days at Mt. Hermon Christian Writers conference this past weekend.  It was a fabulous experience and I would recommend it to any writer.  I must have been more tired than I realized when packing for this trip.  Mind you, this is a FOUR-day conference, and I packed three pairs of shoes, nine books, two knitting projects, underwear, pajamas, and only one extra set of clothes!

For my three evening speaking engagements, (shared with Dr. Jerry Jenkins of the Left Behind series fame) I ended up borrowing clothes for each night .  There is nothing more humbling than begging clothes off of complete strangers!  To poke a little fun at myself, I did a little modeling act, saying “clothes by” and named the generous person who loaned me their jacket for that evening.  Trust me, I’m packing a lot more carefully for my European trip .

That sounds like something I would do! More focus on the fun part and not the essentials. Debbie I just heard you were coming to Vero Beach Book Store the end of May. I am so happy. I want to show you my FIRST dishcloth with a hole in the middle. I have made 2 more since then, alot better. I am a knitter now!!!!

Re: I had to poke fun at myself
At least you packed your shoes, my friend and I went to a conference and she packed her clothes for speaking at it and forgot her shoes, she only had her sneakers that she drove to the conference in. She too made light of it and it didn't really mattered, only that she got there and made her speech. Where can I find the pattern for the dishcloth, would love to make it. I haven't found a dishvcloth that I like and just keep buying different ones.
you had better make a list for your European trip, of course I always found it fun to buy things I had forgotten when I was in foreign countries, even going to the drugstore is an adventure over there. Take care

Re: I had to poke fun at myself
send me an email and I will send the dishcloth instructions. I can make one in two days. Probably one if I was faster but I am just learning. Debbie has inspired me to learn to knit. I want to eventually make her Prayer Shawl. I bought the instruction for it.

I wish the prayer shawl was in crochet as I do not know how to knit.

Re: I had to poke fun at myself
I know how to crochet, but in honor of my oldest sistr, I told her I would learn to knit. Don't know how much as compared to crocheting that I have done, but I have a goal and that is the prayer shawl. Don't you just love Debbie's writing? I can't wait until her next Cedar Cove book comes out.

Re: I had to poke fun at myself
I would love to go to a writing conference. That sounds like an inspiring time; however, I think I would remember my clothes. I would probably forget my shoes. I've been known to wear two different shoes and not even know it.

Debbie, it was wonderful to meet you at Mount Hermon last week. What an incredible conference, and your keynote speeches were touching and funny and informative and just all-around fabulous! Thank you so much for taking the time to help other writers. I for one appreciate it immensely! And you looked great in every outfit I saw you in, so you must have a knack for "begging off of complete strangers." ; )

I can't imagine not packing enough outfits! Even though I live in Florida, if we're going to "the keys" I pack 2 outfits for each day (1-day/1-night)and all the underware to go with it & pj's (which usually consists of a T-shirt) and 1 pr. white & 1 pr. of black sandals bought in Key
West! I love you Deb!!! Kathi :)
