A Weighty Decision

I’ve made a weighty decision, and it hasn’t been an easy one.  I’m giving up desserts for Lent.  For those of you who don’t know me, I have a real sweet tooth.  In other words, I like my chocolate.  In preparation for the next 40 days without sugar (God help me!), I purchased a Key Lime Pie on Saturday.  I told Wayne he wasn’t allowed to eat a piece until Wednesday, because until then that pie is mine.  He gave me the oddest look and left the kitchen, scratching his head.  Sometimes men just don’t understand the most basic principles of life.  Don’t stand between a woman and her sweets, especially when she is about to go on a sugar fast.

Re: A Weighty Decision
I wish you success on this, as I cannot live without my chocolate. Raising my 3 grandbabies though I went from 297 to 139 pounds as of yesterday and I still can have my chocolate for now. 2 grandbabies are going to go home the end of the month after being here 3 years for one and 2 years for the other so pounds may come on. UGH! I still will have the soon to be 11 months so we will see. Good Luck!

Re: A Weighty Decision
Hi there Debbie, I too love key lime pie but I am a diabetic and have to have the sugar free kind ( thank god for splenda). Love your books - a good way to spend a winter afternoon by the fire.

Re: A Weighty Decision
I give up sweets (and everything that has sugar in it) every year for Lent too! I have been doing this for as long as I can remember! The first week is always the hardest but it gets much easier after that. Good for you for taking this on! It is not an easy task! Good luck!

Re: A Weighty Decision
You are noble! I have given up my beloved chocolate chip cookies..........calories, sugar and fat! This will be hard, but if you can do it, so can I! I just brought home tons of fresh fruits and veggies and non-fat Cottage Cheese. I will live and so will you! We will miss the chocolate, especially the dark kind! Have fun in Florida and keep the grand stories coming!

Re: A Weighty Decision
I have been trying to figure what I really wanted to give up for Lent, the real sacrifice, I kept telling myself I don't eat that many sweets, but lately I have developed a sweet tooth, usually I am a salty person. I am going to exercise classes 3 times a week and my weight hasn't gone up or down. I think this would be a great time to cut out my sweets, even sugar in my coffee. I would like to think I would lose some weight also as a bonus. So sweets it is, no sweets for Lent. Good luck to us both.

Re: A Weighty Decision
Good luck! I try this every year and manage to lose a few pounds. Then, on Easter and the weeks after, I gain it all back and more! (but I really do enjoy myself from Easter on!)
