Fruitcake!
I had such a wonderful time judging fruitcake at the Port Gamble Country Christmas celebration this past Saturday. Of course, the fact that many of the entrants doused their fruitcakes with liquor might have had something to do with all the fun the judges had. To be honest, a couple of the fruitcakes required a chainsaw in order to be sliced, but overall, they were delicious . . . especially the one with Grand Marnier. We tasted in the neighborhood of 30 entries. I lost count after about the eighth or ninth taste test but, again, the liquor might have had something to do with that!

Re: Fruitcake!
Oh Debbie that liquor will do it every time. I remember one year my Mom didn't know my Grandma was putting rum on the fruitcakes and visa versa. By the time Christmas came and we ate the fruitcakes, well let me just say, it was one very Merry Christmas!

Re: Fruitcake!
I totally adore fruitcake! Before my Mom decided to go on a permanent diet (WAH/WHINE!) she used to make a glorious fruitcake in October and cover it with a rum-soaked cloth. By December, it was a little bit of heaven on earth! You can sign me up as a fruitcake judge any day!
