Veterans Day

On Monday we celebrate Veterans Day.  For years my father proudly marched in the veterans parade in my home town of Yakima, Washington.  He served in the Army during World War II, was captured toward the end of the war, and held as a prisoner of war in Germany.

My father was fiercely proud of his role in the war and became active in the local VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars).  My parents were part of the Greatest Generation and I am exceedingly proud to be their daughter.

I saw a bumper sticker the other day that said something along the lines of:  IF YOU ENJOY YOUR FEEDOM, THANK A VET.  Today I’d like to thank my father and the hundreds of thousands of men and women who honorably serve our country; whether they served in the past or serve today.

Re: Veterans Day
Our vets deserve more than anyone can ever give them. My uncles both served in WWII. One of them received the bronze star at Guadal (sp) Canal. My father was in WWII. My brother served 10 years in the Marine Corps. I have friends that were drafted during Viet Nam. It does not matter if we agree with the politics of the war or not. The men and women are still giving their lives for us. We need to keep them close in prayer. Trudy

Re: Veterans Day
Very well said Debbie. My husband served two special missions to Viet Nam AFTER his active duty...he still suffers post shock syndrom...he cries when he sees certain war films...he is honored still to have served.
Thank you for remembering, Gail

Hi Mrs Macomber..
I'm Nidia from Mozambique, Africa.
As for the subject that you wrote, i can only say that i have seen war to many times. So it isn't a easy subject to talk about. But indeed all of our veterans deserve a praise and a thank you for all the effort they did.
I cant say what are my favorite books cause i hadn't had the chance to read them all.Sometimes i am fortunate to find a book writing by you but of the time is kinda hard.
But please keep on writing, i do love your stories.
Cheers

Re: Veterans Day
Hello Debbie, you couldn't have said it better! My father served in WWII and Korea and my brother served during the Vietnam era; my husband served in a peacetime army and now my son is getting ready for deployment with the Oklahoma National Guard to Iraq. We all need to remember our veterans as well as our men and women who are serving now and pray for their safety. Thank you.
