The Power of Positive Thinking
Categories: Tea Norman Vincent Peale
I was in New York last week just before Thanksgiving to speak at the Guideposts offices in Pawling for their annual Thanksgiving Day of Prayer. The highlight of my visit was tea with Ruth Stafford Peale, wife of Norman Vincent Peale, the author of THE POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING. Back in the days when I wrote on a rented typewriter and received a barrage of rejections, the one thing that kept me going, that gave me hope and encouraged me, was this book. Later, after I sold my first novel, I wrote Dr. Peale and thanked him. The most amazing thing happened. He wrote me back and that was the start of my association with Guideposts and the Peale family. My time with Mrs. Peale was a blessing I won’t soon forget.

Hi Debbie, My Aunt Ruth was a friend of Mrs. Peale's and they talked so well together. I know you do have a treasure in knowing them. Nothing better than Positive Thinking !

Thanks for the info. I need to read that book. Waiting for disability to be approved, and while I understand it is going to be, just want to get money to pay bills and have a little Christmas. Am trying to be positive.

Debbie, I've been published now for 5 years with Steeple Hill and have to agree that reading "The Power of Positive Thinking" encouraged me through many rejections but also YOUR books kept me inspired as I struggled to make my dream of becoming an author come true. Always a fan, I've been reading your blog but never commented until now. Thank you for being such an inspiration to me!

Re: The Power of Positive Thinking
Discovering God's Pattern for my life was the purist white icing on the proverbial birthday cake for me, complete with its many unextinguishable candles and all its glory to go along with it! I read an excert that he wrote with his wife so many years ago, in Family Circle I believe, and saved it on my refrigerator for everyday intercourse with the strength of the word staring back at me everytime I reached for the door handle. I have been applying those very words for so long now, it is like breathing in the oxygen God created for us to breathe! LIFE in Positive Mode! Thank you for reaffirming that for me, and giving me even more strength to be, the woman God created me to be! Bless your giving heart for the miracle of vision, beyond sight; you are a treasure in your own right, twinkling with God's own majestic colorway! Amen sister, amen.

Hi Debbie..I'm so glad you could actually meet Mrs. Peale. Guideposts has been a longtime support to me, and I give many subscriptions for Christmas gifts each year. God Bless you, Debbie.
